Guilford has just sent out their new assessment valuations after the recent revaluation. We have already heard from many in town asking us questions regarding the process, the need for an appraisal and so on and so forth. In an effort to help everyone interested in finding out more we have provided a link to the Town's recommendation's regarding the tax appeal process. We encourage everyone to follow this link and read it (it is only 3 pages long):   http://www.ci.guilford.ct.us/Town%20Dept/Assessor's%20Office/Revaluation/INFO%20appeal%20plus.pdf  Basically, when appealing you have two options for the informal and formal hearings: 1) You can choose to gather all of your own information and present your case. 2) You can hire a state licensed appraiser to perform an appraisal of your property. You will bring a copy of the appraisal report to present to the board. All pertinent information is gathered, analysed and presented in a structured report for the board to review. The appraiser is not required to show up with you to the hearing, however, this is always an option for you to consider. As noted in the document if you choose to pursue the case beyond the town to the Superior Court, an appraisal is highly recommended, and the appraiser may need to accompany you.
